Taylor Schwandt Makes MIHL History
On Sunday November 12th, Blue Water Stars Goaltender Taylor Schwandt made her first Michigan Independence Hockey League (MIHL) start. This game was not only Schwandt's first start with the Stars, but marked the first time a woman has ever competed in the MIHL. Out of 47 shots, Schwandt made 42 saves as the Stars battled the Detroit Warhawks Hockey Club. Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Zelenock said, "she fits in nicely with the team and does her best to boost team morale with her composed demeanor and work ethic."
A Pennsylvania native, Schwandt primarily works with the team remotely, utilizing her in-state goalie coaches (Goalie Doctors and DK Mobility). "I'm still training on and off the ice while at home. I'm doing my best to show my commitment and earn my keep," Schwandt said.
The Stars are back in action Saturday November 18th against the Gaylord Snow for Kids Night. The Stars are hosting a pregame meetup at Moo Moo Bubble Tea House. Following the game, there will be a Post Game Party at Buffalo Wild Wings Chesterfield.
