Stars Formally Name Team Leader
While the Blue Water Stars Professional Hockey Club has undergone what seems like a complete roster overhaul, one particular player has always stood out. Even though the role has been clear all season, the Stars organization is extremely proud to formally announce Zach Huggins as the teams next captain.
The move comes shortly after President Austin Dunn and VP Melissa Dauphinais announced a front office shakeup in an attempt to make Blue Water the premiere franchise in the MIHL. "Hugs is everything we could ask for in our captain. Obviously change is always tough, and once the roster became more competitive we had some players who unfortunately did not share in our vision and were ultimately granted their outright release. Throughout the changes, Huggins has showed up and led the room day in and day out. He's a professional in every sense of the word and were fortunate he can lead our team" said Derrick Eshelman, the General Manager when asked about the move.
Huggins, 27, brings junior, collegiate, and higher professional experience to the team as the Stars stay on their journey for an MIHL Championship. The Aurora, Illinois native has seen action in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), collegiately for Northern Illinois University, and most recently has spent time in the Federal Prospects Hockey League with Watertown and Motor City. Head Coach Brian Bjornholm says the move was a no brainer, "We’re fortunate Zach is apart of our team. He's a natural leader that we can lean on every time we hit the ice. This squad needed someone that can command the room and there wasn't a second option, Zach was always the guy."
The Stars continue their quest for the chance to be named the MIHL's best and return home on January 13th vs the current first place Muskegon Voyagers. Tickets for their next home game can be purchased at ticketsource.us/blue-water-stars-hockey.
